How to trim an MP3 online

Keep a short section of a recording, remove silence at the start, or cut an ending you do not need. Clear MP3 lets you listen before choosing the start and end of your clip. The converter stays free to use, with no ads, pop-ups, or signup.

Choose the section you want to keep

1. Open Clear MP3 and choose Upload file for an audio or video file on your device. You can also paste a YouTube link for content you own or have permission to download.
2. Select Convert to MP3. Once conversion finishes, the audio editor appears below the form.
3. Press Play to hear the recording. Use the playback slider to find the part you want.
4. Drag the left handle of the trim line to set the start. Drag the right handle to set the end. The two handles define the section that will be kept.
5. Listen to the selection, then choose Download MP3. The exported file uses the selection and settings from the moment you click.

Trimming tips

For spoken audio, leave a little space before the first word and after the last word so the clip does not sound abruptly cut off. When selecting music, listen around the boundary to find a natural pause or beat. Moving the playback slider changes where you listen; moving the two trim handles changes what you keep.

Trimming selects one continuous section. It does not join several clips or remove a section from the middle while keeping both ends. Keep your original recording if you need to make several different excerpts.

Duration, quality, and downloads

The source can be up to 30 minutes long, and uploads can be up to 50 MB. The output is a 192 kbps MP3. Trimming changes the length; it cannot improve the quality of a low-quality source. Download within 10 minutes because temporary files expire.

You can also change pitch and speed before downloading. At 2× speed, a 20-second selection plays for roughly 10 seconds. The trim positions refer to the original recording.

If a YouTube link cannot be converted, check that the video is available and within the duration limit, or upload your own audio file instead.
